Sport Management/Sport Business Academic Programs
The academic arena is one of the President’s, Dr. Susan Foster, specialty areas. Having worked in higher education for over twenty years including service as the Chair of the Sport Management Program Review Council (SMPRC) for five years, your educational institution can benefit in its development of a sport management curriculum and the necessary internship program, a key ingredient for any sport management or sport business academic program. Dr. Foster’s eleven total years to SMPRC established her as a recognized expert in sport management curriculum as evidenced by her election as Chair by her peers in 2001.
Dr. Foster has been developing Sport Management curricula since 1988 and was successful in gaining national program approval from SMPRC for Western Carolina University as Program Coordinator for 10 ½ years. In 1999, Dr. Foster moved to Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida where she spearheaded the portfolio development for SMPRC program approval. Under Dr. Foster’s guidance, Flagler College was successful in gaining this prestigious milestone on its first submission. Historically, less than 20% of institutions gained program approval on their first submission.
In 2003, Dr. Foster was hired to start the new Department of Sport Management in the School of Business at Saint Leo University near Tampa, FL. Under her direction, a new full-time internship program was established which has grown to be one of the most respected in the industry. See what General Manager, Buck Rogers, of the Brevard County Manatees (Single-A, Milwaukee Brewers) says about Saint Leo interns. (Link here – will provide additional info). 2007 brought a name change to the major and department to the Department of Sport Business and International Tourism now housing two majors – Sport Business and International Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Dr. Foster will consult with your department, school, or university in developing a quality sport management/business program. Contact her via e-mail, or view our Contact page.
